Origin of Money and Banks - A Brief Tale for Understanding

In the ancient period when the money was not created, what has been used as money? The people have faith in certain things such as stones, shells, coco beans and even feathers has got values. They were exchanged for the real things such as food, shelter and cattle. Some time later, gold and silver were attractive and easy to work with, so some people got expertise with these metals and they are called as goldsmiths. The goldsmith casts gold coins and it was easy to exchange as money. The purity and weight of the gold were certified. People started using gold coins as their means of exchange for the real things and to full fill their day today needs. The demand for the gold coins were increasing as the usage of gold was very popular among the people. The goldsmith produced more coins and he exchanged gold coins with the people for real things. The gold smith was in a need of a safe place to keep his gold and he created vault. The people who wanted to safegaurd their gold also placed their gold in the goldsmith's vault. The goldsmith earned a small income by renting shelves in his vault. The goldsmith issued clean cheques to gold depositors mentioning the worth of the gold he received from the depositors to keep in his vault.

over a period of time, the goldsmith made an observation that the depositors rarely came in to move their actual physical gold. This was because, the depositors were using the clean cheques issued by the goldsmith for the transactions. Mean while gold smith started a new business of lending his own gold for interest. The people liked the clean cheques than the gold as it was more convenient. The demand for loans were increasing. The goldsmith noticed the fact that his very few of his depositors were moved in to move their actual gold. So he got an idea of lending clean cheques against the depositor's gold without the depositors knowledge. This idea fetched him a great wealth. This wealth started the whispers among the depositors that the goldsmith is lending the depositors gold. When the depositors asked the goldsmith about their gold, the goldsmith showed them that the depositor's gold were safe in the vault.

Even though, the depositors found out his principle of lending and depositors demanded their share of interests. The goldsmith agreed to pay them. Here comes the birth of banks.so the principle of banks of collecting deposits and lending deposits to the needful with interest, took its shape. The goldsmith now found that his wealth was not going in the same pace after the formation of banking system. This was because, now he was sharing the interest with the depositors. The goldsmith got an idea of issuing more clean cheques more than the value of actual gold in his vault. when he implemented this he was growing at a rapid pace as the demand for the loans were increasing. There was no problem with this fact unless or otherwise all the depositors came in the same time in demand of their actual gold. But one day, because of the depositors speculation about the goldsmith's heavy wealth, they demanded their gold back. The banker ie the goldsmith was not able to pay back the depositors with the value of the gold. The bank crashed. This is called as run on the bank.

This crash has created a new theory of creating a wealth from nothing. In order to implement this theory, there arise the need of a safe line to operate with in.This safe line was defined as Fractional Reserve System. under this system a bank can issue a loan of nine times worth to its one time worth of gold which it has in its vault. This can be easily understood by this. A bank can lend a loan nine rupees if it has one rupee worth of gold. The ratio is 9:1. These operations of the local banks were monitored strictly by an agency called central bank. In India the central bank is Reserve Bank of India. When a run on the bank occurs, the central bank will infuse the gold to the affected bank and carry out the operations of that affected bank. To end this article with a shock, today our banks were not operating in this principle of "Money representing value", instead our banks follows the principle of "Money represents Debt". Even this fact "Money represents debt" may be the cause for today's economic meltdown. "Money as debt" will be discussed in another post in the near future.

Mindful Thoughts and Heartful Execution

The caption of Bharat gas is "Cook Food Serve Love". These four words which forms a meaningful sentence has got a lots of facts inside it. The Mind and Heart are believed to have a vital impact in an action which is executed on others. When ever an action is planned, the planning is done by the mind or brain. The mind thinks about what has to be done, it analysis the ways to perform and even the consequences of a particular action. Mind weighs all the things which are behind in an action and it finalise the sequence of action. So where comes the Heart?
The Heart is playing its role in executing the action, which is decided by the mind. This can be clearly illustrated from the phrase "My Hearty Wishes". The fact behind this phrase is, our heart is executing the action of wishing which is decided by our mind. Its not "my mindful wishes". when and where ever the care on others is expressed through our heart, it reaches them in the most intense way of expressing our love on others. This seems to be warm as it regards wishing.
The mind or brain is birthplace and backbone of thoughts. The notorious Tamil writer Sujatha has once said, " There is nothing a Heart can do while executing an thought. If any one shows an organ other than brain which is thinking and decision making, I will recomend that person's name for that organ. The heart is pumping the blood to brain so as to the other parts and organs. Its the brain which decides what has to be done and how has to be done." There is nothing wrong when it is seen through pure science. But When an action is to be executed on others, it needs a mindful thoughts and heartful execution. The heartful execution is nothing but adding love to your thoughts which are being executed. How love can be added to a Thought? This is simple, love can be added to a thought by just expressing the love while we execute a thought as an action. The correct blend of mindful thoughts and heartful execution makes wonders in ones life and even in on others too. So "Cook Food Serve Love".
